Church Flowers
It is always good to see St James’ decorated with beautiful flowers but you may wonder who provides the flowers and who arranges them?
Often when there’s a wedding or a funeral, the family concerned ask a local florist to provide the floral arrangements.
At the other times, the “flower team” receive financial donations for flowers to be provided in memory of a special birthday or anniversary. This might be for a member of their family or a lost loved one. In these instances a mention of the event is printed in the Pew Sheet for that particular Sunday saying, “The flowers this week were in memory / celebration of ….”
On the big Christian festivals of Christmas, Easter and at Harvest a plate is put out for the congregation to contribute towards the cost of the flowers. The donations are much appreciated.
Currently there is a team of around 8 ladies on the flower arranging rota. You don’t have to be a skilled flower arranger – a simple vase of lilies in front of the altar can look absolutely stunning. The more willing hands, the better. If you would be interested in helping, by making a donation or arranging flowers then please contact Shirley Fawcett (584816).
