Suggestions for Prayer

Today is International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church, when Christians worldwide pray that more people will become aware of Fellow Christians who are called to suffer for their faith in Jesus - from those who face worship restrictions to those who face death. That Christians unite in solidarity to remember their brothers and sisters in China, Egypt and India and thank God for their courage and commitment to Jesus.

People in the Micklethwaite area of Wetherby: Boston Road, Grange View, Micklethwaite Grove, Micklethwaite View, Wetherby Road, Grange Park, The Sports Centre and The Police Station.

This week Churches in Wetherby pray for:  All Saints’, Spofforth, & All Saints’, Kirk Deighton.


The Children’s Society – Thank you to everyone who supported our Coffee Morning in the Town Hall last Saturday. We raised the fantastic total of £664 for The Children’s Society. Many thanks. Jill Rose

Christmas Fair on Saturday 24 November from 9.30am to 12 noon in the Church Centre.

Red Wednesday – On Wednesday 28 November at 10amthere will be an ecumenical service to pray for persecuted Christians at St Joseph’s Church, Wetherby. Thank you. Chris Bishop, Wetherby Churches Together.


Posada – Mary and Joseph will be setting off from Church on Sunday 2Decemberthis year. They require a place to stay for each night during Advent and would love to be included in your family activities. If you would like to host them, please sign the sheet at the back of Church or speak to Sarah Sharp (07500 262306).


Charity Carol Service on Monday 10 December at 7.30pm at St James’ Church – This year’s chosen charity is St Gemma’s Hospice. Tickets are £5.00 and are available from Jean Heaton, Sheila Guest or the Parish Office. Festive fare will be served after the Service and any donations towards this, ie, mince pies, wine, etc, are always gratefully received (list at the back of Church). Church Family Weekend – 22 to 24 March 2019 at Scargill House, Kettlewell.  The costs, which include accommodation and food, are £110 for adults, children over 5 years £25.00, children under 5 are free.  FINAL DATE FOR BOOKING,25 November 2018. Val Lumsden 


Remembrance Tree– There will once again be a Remembrance Tree in the Church grounds, which will be illuminated on Advent Sunday, 2 December, and remain lit until Epiphany, 6 January. Dedicating a light on the tree will provide an opportunity to remember someone special at this time. Your name, and the names of those remembered, will also be listed in the Memorial Book in Church. If you would like to dedicate a light, please pick up a form from the back of church or from the Parish Office. Val Lumsden


Christmas Day Lunch from 12 noon to 3pm. Churches Together will be serving a traditional Christmas Lunch at St James’ Church Centre. There will be a warm welcome, entertainment, turkey and trimmings and transport provided, if necessary. Tickets, which cost £5.00 per person, are now available from the Parish Office.
